Support Services and Institute Infrastructure
 

Excellent research requires stable, clearly structured, and at the same time flexible institutional conditions. The scientific leadership in the Max Planck Society is increasingly faced with the task of bringing together highly specialized research teams, administrative requirements, and internationally competitive dynamics. Against this background, the Board of Directors decided in 2024 to introduce a dual leadership structure, consisting of the Head of Administration and the Institute Research Coordinator, and restructured the service units under their management. The Head of Administration oversees the non-scientific service units (Administration, Central IT, Facility & Technical Operations) while the Institute Research Coordinator is responsible for the scientific service units (Communications & Design, Research Data & Information, Research Management & Planning, Scientific Technology & Computing).

The Institute's research infrastructure extends beyond its service units. In particular, this includes the Max Planck Dahlem Campus of Cognition (MPDCC), as well as Institute-wide activities in the field of Open Science.
